Tea Companion

Voice : Hi. I know you are lost in the moment and enjoying your cup of tea right now, but can I join you for a moment ?

Me : You are funny.

Voice : Thank you for the compliment.

Me : So, did I do something stupid, again ?

Voice : Ha ha. You are funny too. In fact, I wanted to tell you something. You did very well today. I mean you had a flat tyre, lost your wallet and your proposal got rejected. All this happened in one day and I like the way you are handling it all.

Me : Well..you been guiding me. But, I did get angry again and I know I should have stayed positive.

Voice : I can only guide, but you have to live it and I see you doing everything in your capacity to try and live the positive way. It doesn't matter if you get angry sometimes, get dejected or disappointed or fall prey to senses. The important part is to acknowledge and accept and that gradually turns into Awareness. How will you ever know light unless you know darkness ? How will you know forbearance until you experience anger ? How will you know joy unless you know despair ?

Me : Hmm.

Voice : How will you ever understand the stillness of this cup of tea that you are having right now unless you crave for the stillness ? And the craving will come when you experience chaos or intense activity.

Me : You are right. I enjoy the cup of tea most in the day, when if it follows long hours of mental or physical work. I still remember my most precious moment of devouring a simple cup of tea. It was after trekking for almost 12 hours in most arduous climb in the Himalayas and being exposed to continuous snowfall and bitter cold winds. That hot tea I had after arriving at the campsite was the most valued, treasured, loved and remembered moment. The tea was not exotic but it was the best ! Think I got your point.

Voice : No matter what is happening around you, no one can take away the that moment of stillness from you. You will always have the power to create that moment. It can be sipping a cup of tea, lying on the grass, walking your dog, cooking a new dish, staring at the clouds or simply listening to the birds chirping.

Me : Yes.

Voice : Remember pain may be inevitable, but suffering is a choice. Don't loose sight of the bliss that is you. And I don't mind being invited for your tea breaks. I quite like it.

Me : Ha ha. You are my eternal tea companion!

  1. Beautiful Somit and over a hot cup of tea it is so nice to just allow the Voice to speak to you and the emptiness that surrounds itself. 'No matter what is happening around you, no one can take away the that moment of stillness from you'. Superb lines. Just the stillness and Me. Great post.
